Located only a few miles from beautiful Rend Lake, K & M Liquors began operation in 1985. Picture 1985, a time when Southern Illinois was prominent in the coal industry. Mike Szczeblewski was an electrician at a local mine when he received a layoff notice. The Swizzle Stick was for sale and he, along with his wife, decided to purchase the tiny liquor store until he could go back to work. The store was renamed K & M Liquors and he never went back to work at the coal mine. We are still located in the same location where it all began. In 1989, the original store was demolished and a new store was built. Since then, we have expanded multiple times. Why is it called K & M? The owners initials (Krista & Mike). Sadly, Mike passed away in 2018. However, his wife Krista, along with their daughter Ashleigh, continues to run the business. 37 years, one location, one family!
